Incredible Selection of Truss Plates

Shed Windows and More has truss plates or gang nail plates to help you create a strong building. Truss plates are used to create high-strength, rigid, and durable connections between wood material in your roof and floor trusses. Truss plates are galvanized steel plates, featuring stamped teeth that are pressed into the wood at joints to create high-strength connections. Truss plates replace traditional nails and truss plates prevent splitting of wood while creating a durable connection for your building project.

How to Install Truss Plates

Installing truss plates has you positioning the metal connector plates over wood joints and embedding them into the wood, usually on both sides for symmetry, using a hammer or C-clamps.

Hammering: Tap the truss plate gently with a hammer to set the teeth into the wood, then drive it in firmly until flush with the wood.

Check Installation: Make sure the truss plate is fully flush with the wood joined and has less than a 1/32” gap and is not lifting from the wood.

Truss Plate Safety Measures

When installing truss plates, there are some important considerations to consider:

Pair Truss Plates: Use truss plates on both sides of the truss to keep your join symmetrical.

Don’t Over-Drive Plates: Do not over-drive the truss plate into the wood because this can damage the wood joint.

Brace Your Project: Help ensure temporary bracing during erection to keep trusses from bending or the truss plates from being damaged.
